Changes in gene expression during actinorhizal nodule and AM formation in Casuarina glauca

We are using a genomic approach to understand the changes in gene expression induced in Casuarina glauca by the symbiotic association with Frankia. cDNA libraries corresponding to young nodules, non infected roots and have been constructed. Substractive libraries corresponding to early actinorhizal steps and mycorhizae formed with the arbuscular mycorrhizal (=AM) fungus Glomus intraradices were also obtained. 

As part of the Genopole Montpellier Languedoc-Roussillon and Genoscope project, we have  generated 30.000 ESTs totalling 15.000 unigenes. A Casuarina microarray was generated and used to study gene expression in nodules, roots and mycorrhizae (Ec2CO-CNRS project).  

These results will be compared with those of similar approaches in the symbioses between legumes and Rhizobium or Glomus allowing  to define common features of  N2 fixing symbioses versus AM.
